The 2017 convention is just over a month away, and early-bird pricing ends Monday. If you haven't registered yet, you don't want to wait. Register here now.

The speakers and sessions include something for everyone, with topics ranging from generating new revenue, to improving writing and design, to increasing engagement both online and off, and much, much more. For a complete schedule, please click here. And as always, awards will also be given to Colorado's best and brightest journalism and advertising professionals.

The convention is not just about training and awards, it’s also about fun. This year we’ve doubled our efforts to make the convention a fun event, starting with Friday night's Lip Sync & Trivia Battle sponsored by NTVB.

"We want to educate and inspire, but we also want to be able to network and socialize," said Colorado Press Association CEO Jerry Raehal. "I have found during my career in the newspaper business that my greatest resources have always been the other journalists I’ve met. We'll have some fun activities but also a lounge area where if you don’t want to participate you can just hang out and enjoy the entertainment and conversation."

Raehal encourages convention attendees to think about what song they might want to lip sync to and encourages attendees to bring props and costumes if they want. He said trivia will be in teams of three-to-five people and will include goofy topics like, "Who said it? Hillary Clinton or Hillary Duff," and "Real headline or fake headline."

NTVB is sponsoring the Lip Sync & Trivia Battle, so the first $1,000 worth of drinks are on them. Is there anyone that doesn't like free drinks?

"It's always a little nerve-wracking when you try something new like this, and it is a big departure from what we have done in past conventions," Raehal said, "but I hope people will come and have a lot of fun and get to know their peers more."

Raehal says you can sign up at the convention to lip sync but encourages people who want to participate to let us know by sending an email to coloradopress@colopress.net with your team name and song, or if you would like to put on a team.

The Lip Sync & Trivia Battle is 9 pm on Friday, April 21 at the Denver West Sheraton after the Associated Press Awards Dinner and keynote address by Amy Wobbema. To register online now, click here
