The Colorado Press Association Announces Tim Regan-Porter as CEO

Regan-Porter to Start Monday, October 12, 2020

DENVER – The Colorado Press Association (CPA) is pleased to welcome Tim Regan-Porter as its new CEO. Regan-Porter starts on Monday, October 12 and will be working from his home in Macon, Georgia until he moves to Colorado, likely later this year. 

Regan-Porter comes to CPA with a rich history working at the intersection of innovation, leadership and journalism. He is the founding executive director of the Center for Collaborative Journalism, a former Knight Fellow and a regional editor at McClatchy. 

At CPA, he will assure the organization and its mission are consistently and positively represented through programming, advocacy and services. He will work with CPA members finding innovative solutions to challenges facing the journalism industry in Colorado and seeking opportunities for growth. 

“Quality local news is crucial for informed, engaged and healthy communities. In these times of a national pandemic, political polarization and economic disruption, ensuring the vibrancy and vitality of local news organizations has never been more important nor more challenging. I’m excited to join CPA and honored to continue the great work that Jill Farschman and the CPA board, staff and members have been doing,” Regan-Porter said. 

Through his work at multiple startups, Regan-Porter has created coalitions, led reporting projects and raised millions of dollars in grants, receiving recognition from organizations such as the New York Times, Poynter, Nieman Lab and The Guardian. During his time as executive director of the Center for Collaborative Journalism, Regan-Porter designed and led a daily newspaper, public radio network, local television station and university to implement a “teaching-hospital” model of journalism education. 

The CEO selection committee was made up of five CPA board members and Laura Frank, executive director of COLab, and was assisted by Open Media Foundation. The committee received 72 applicants. 

“Tim rose to the top because of his background and thought leadership. We were impressed with how well he captured CPA/CPN goals and ideas he had to help us achieve them. Tim is extremely bright, well connected and ready to take us to the next level,” said Jerry Healey, publisher and owner of Colorado Community Media, CPA board president and head of the selection committee.
